Beginnings
Creation, fall, flood, and Babel
Primeval narrative
God creates, humanity rebels, Noah preserves life through judgment, and nations scatter—setting up the story of election and blessing in one family.
In the text
- Creation week: God names the world good; humanity made in God’s image to rule under him (Gen 1–2).
- The fall: sin enters through Adam and Eve; the first promise of a seed who will crush the serpent (Gen 3).
- Cain and Abel to Noah: violence spreads; one family is preserved through the flood; a covenant with Noah and the rainbow sign (Gen 4–9).
- The table of nations and Babel: language scattered; the line of Shem leads toward Abraham (Gen 10–11).
