The One Great Objective

From the protoevangelium in Eden to the marriage supper of the Lamb, Scripture tells one story.

I

Creation

Genesis 1–2

God creates the heavens, the earth, and man in His own image, declaring all "very good." Man is placed in the garden to glorify God.

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." — Gen. 1:1
II

The Fall

Genesis 3

Adam disobeys; sin and death enter the world. Yet in the curse, God promises a Seed of the woman who shall bruise the serpent's head — the first gospel.

"It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." — Gen. 3:15
III

The Promise to Abraham

Genesis 12, 15, 22

God calls Abram and covenants that in his Seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed — the gospel preached beforehand (Gal. 3:8).

"In thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed." — Gen. 22:18
IV

The Passover & Exodus

Exodus 12

A spotless lamb is slain; its blood on the doorpost shields Israel from the angel of death. A picture of the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

"When I see the blood, I will pass over you." — Ex. 12:13
V

The Law & the Tabernacle

Exodus 20 – Leviticus

The Law reveals sin; the sacrificial system foreshadows atonement by the shedding of blood. The tabernacle shows God dwelling with His people.

"Without shedding of blood is no remission." — Heb. 9:22
VI

The Davidic Covenant

2 Samuel 7

God promises David a Son whose throne shall be established for ever — the King who would reign in righteousness.

"Thy throne shall be established for ever." — 2 Sam. 7:16
VII

The Prophets Foretell

Isaiah – Malachi

The prophets describe a suffering Servant pierced for transgressions, born in Bethlehem, riding on a donkey, and a New Covenant written on the heart.

"He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities." — Isa. 53:5
VIII

The Word Made Flesh

Matthew – John

Jesus Christ, the promised Seed, the Passover Lamb, the Son of David, is born, lives sinlessly, dies on the cross, and rises the third day.

"Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." — John 1:29
IX

The Gospel to the Nations

Acts – Jude

The Spirit is poured out, the church is formed, the gospel runs to the Gentiles, and the apostles set forth doctrine, duty, and hope for Christ's people.

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." — Acts 16:31
X

Consummation

Revelation

Christ returns, judges the living and the dead, and dwells with His redeemed in the New Heaven and New Earth. God is all in all.

"Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men." — Rev. 21:3
